Erosion Control

Private Land Owner’s Erosion Control Program

The Pend Oreille PUD is collaborating with the Pend Oreille Conservation District to provide landowners with technical and financial assistance for bank stabilization projects.

For more information on this reimbursement program, or to see if you qualify, contact David Marcell with the Pend Oreille Conservation District at (509) 447-1155, or visit the Pend Oreille Conservation Districts website at:

https://www.pocd.org/pud-shoreline-grants

The PUD has established funds for erosion control projects on privately-owned lands to address erosion control along the Box Canyon reservoir in compliance with our FERC license. Private landowners are eligible for the cost of the erosion control project or $5,000 (whichever is less).

Project guidelines are as follows:

  • The project must be located within an area that has a moderate or high rate of erosion, as identified in the District’s Hazard Occurrence Erosion Maps.
  • Only one project per landowner is allowed.
  • The funds cannot be used as reimbursement for repairs to existing erosion control structures or for development of shoreline access features, dock construction, or weed control.
  • All applicable permits (as determined by the Pend Oreille County Planning Department and landowner) must accompany the application. The PUD, POCD and the permit issuers will make a site visit after the project is completed. Following the site visit and the approval of the completed project by the permitting agencies, the landowner may apply for this rebate.

Completed projects are reviewed/approved by November of each year for reimbursement.

For information on project scope and the permitting process contact the Pend Oreille County Community Development Department at (509) 447-6462.

*Funding for qualified projects will be granted in the order completed applications are received by the Pend Oreille Conservation District.

*All projects are subject to availability of funds.
